Thank you for your interest in the Fall Soccer Program at Mandarin United Methodist Church. The league is for ages 3 through 8th grade. Mandatory evaluations and uniform sizing will be held Saturday, August 5, between 8:30-11 AM. All players must attend this evaluation. Evaluations consist of individual running, dribbling and shooting exercises. The evaluation scores are used to try and assure the teams are evenly balanced.
Uniforms and Equipment
The league will provide practice and game balls so it is not necessary to purchase your child a ball. Should you wish to do so, age 3 through 1st grade will use a size 3 ball, 2nd through 4th grade will use a size 4 ball and 5th-8th grade will use a size 5 ball.
All players will be provided with a reversible jersey and shorts, socks and a water bottle. The colors are white and orange. Uniforms will be distributed Saturday, August 19 between 9-11 AM. All players must wear shin guards at all games and practices to reduce the chance of injury. Players will not be allowed to participate without shin guards. Cleats are recommended for all players. Players must wear either cleats or athletic shoes. No flip flops or crocs will be allowed. A limited amount of shoes and shin guards have been donated by previous players and are available free of charge.
Practices will begin the week of August 21st. Team practices are held one day a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday for one hour between 5 – 7:30 PM. Practices days and times are selected by the coaches based on their personal schedules. We always need coaches and assistant coaches. If you want to guarantee your child has a particular day and time for practice, volunteer to coach.
The fields are across from the gym. Fields are numbered beginning with #1 immediately behind the car dealership. Field assignments and age divisions are subject to adjustment based on registrations.
- Field #1 is immediately behind the car dealership. It is used mainly for 3 & 4-year-old practices. All 3 & 4-year-old games will be on this field.
- Field #2 is immediately west of field #1. It is used mainly for K-1st grade practices. All K-1st grade games will be on this field.
- Field #3 is immediately next to field #2. It is used mainly for 2nd-4th grade practices and games.
- Field #4 is immediately next to field #3. It is used mainly for 2nd-4th grade practices and games.
- Field #5 is the field farthest from San Jose. It is used for 5th-8th grade practice and games.
Some teams will split fields so two teams may be practicing on a field at the same time.
Entering and exiting the campus
Please be careful as you enter and exit the Mandarin UMC campus. Please enter from the north as the south is exit only. Remember that there will be 250+ players and their families moving around the field and gym area. Be alert for children darting into traffic.
The game schedule will be emailed to you the week of August 21. Games begin September 9. October 7 will be an open date to allow for the annual MUMC Craft Fair. Our final games will be October 28.
The normal schedule is 8, 9:15, 10:30 and 11:45 AM. As much as possible, your games will be evenly distributed among the four times. Please be sure that your child stays hydrated. Be sure that they drink extra water the night before practice and games. Each player will be asked to bring snacks and drinks for the team for one game.
The concession stand is a major source of funds for equipment and scholarships. Each team will be asked to help in the concession stand once per season either before or after one of your games.
We will not play or practice for 30 minutes after thunder or lightning is observed. I will endeavor to notify you at least one hour before a practice or game if it will be cancelled. Notification will be via Twitter (@MUMCRecMin), Facebook (Mandarin UMC Recreation Ministries) and by email. Rained out games will be made up during practices if possible. Scheduling of makeup games will be done by the coaches.
Team and individual pictures will be taken before the games on September 16. You will have an opportunity to order them from the photographer.
