There are three opportunities available for service:
Eagle Rock Apartments/World Relief Organization) (15 people)
3760 University Blvd S, Jacksonville, FL 32216
Point of Contacts: Rich & Joy Clark
For nearly 40 years, the World Relief Organization has been working in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, along with a network of local church partners, to welcome and resettle thousands of refugees referred by the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to the United States each year. The greatest complaint of the refugee is loneliness. They desire and need relationships with Americans. Join MUMC as we spend some time with the residents of this apartment complex. We will set up tents in the shade and bring snacks and activities (balls for sports, easy crafts) for the families so that we may interact with them. This is a perfect opportunity for families to serve other families.
City Rescue Mission Thrift Store (8 people)
5343 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville 32205
Point of Contacts: Katie and Matt Boley
The City Rescue Mission works to transform the lives of the homeless and needy in Jacksonville. The City Rescue Mission Thrift Store not only provides valuable training to the clients but also provides funding for the organization. During the Day of Service, volunteers will help price items, move merchandise and straighten the sales floor.
Hygiene Kits (10 people)
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church (UMC). During this Day of Service, we will be assembling hygiene kits that will be used by UMCOR. Hygiene kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural disaster.
