Mandarin’s men’s ministry is one of the largest, most active men’s ministries in all of Methodism. We were recently recognized by the General Commission of United Methodist Men as the most vital UMM ministry in the Southeastern United States out of over 15,000 United Methodist Churches, and second most vital out of 32,000 United Methodist Churches worldwide! Last year our United Methodist Men’s charter gave over $38,000 to local ministries and charities with which our men are actively involved. Our men have voted unanimously–our United Methodist Men’s charter must do everything possible to strengthen the local men’s ministries throughout United Methodist Churches in the Northeast District and the Florida Conference. More than 300 active men are striving to be a flagship of UMM’s ministry by honoring God with God-sized plans! To be successful it takes every man to step up at Mandarin…and WE DO! We break down our ministry into 3 necessary parts: fellowship, service and spiritual growth. Here is our story:
We enjoy our fellowship with one another whether we are participating in small, informal gatherings or larger, more organized events like the MUMM Golf Tournament for Missions, softball teams, Family Night at the Ball Park (Jumbo Shrimp Game), Men’s Annual Low Country Boil & Oyster Roast and Men’s Annual Steak ‘N’ Spud Night!
We enjoy serving Jesus Christ though our Church, the Mandarin community and the city of Jacksonville in a wide variety of ways. Our efforts include our 40+Year Christmas Tree Ministry, Mandarin Food Bank, Tool Belts United, Trinity Freedom Farm LifeSkills seminar, Parking Lot Ministry, Easter Pancake Breakfast for the Church and community and Promotion Sunday Back-To-School School Supply Drive.
We offer weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual opportunities for spiritual growth for men to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Mandarin UMC has sent more men to the Annual UMM Conference Retreat in Leesburg annually than any other UMM in Florida for the last 5 years! On a weekly basis we have Small Accountability Groups, Wednesday morning Men’s Bible Study and Prayer Group, as well as breakfast groups with devotions in local restaurants. We also offer men’s ministry training classes.
What our pastors have to say about Mandarin United Methodist Men:
Debbie McLeod: “United Methodist Men have been one of the highlights of my first seven years at Mandarin UMC. I have served four churches as pastor, and two districts as superintendent, and I have never seen a more vital men’s ministry than Mandarin, Jacksonville. When churches are growing, they invite men to teach, cook, fix things, coach and lead. Sometimes a man who is new to faith needs to hold a hammer, a frying pan or a dish cloth before he is ready to teach the Bible or lead a committee. We disciple men through doing stuff.”
Jeff St Clair: ” The Mandarin United Methodist Men continue to inspire, nurture and serve others in ways I believe God desires! My teenage son and I are thankful to be a part of the Mandarin United Methodist Men!”
