United Methodist Women

Who We Are

Vision

Turning faith, hope, and love into action on behalf of women, children, and youth around the world.

Purpose

United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.

50+ Years and Moving Forward in Mission

MUMW proudly celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2014, but we are not resting on those laurels. We are an active group of more than 175 women of all ages who are finding new and exciting ways to be connected with local and global missions. MUMW currently has four daytime and three evening circles where we fellowship, study how we can serve in God’s world, and engage in many local mission projects–getting our hands dirty in the messy business of being the hands and feet of Jesus.

Education and Spiritual Growth

MUMW hosts quarterly meetings at the church to promote awareness of ways to become involved in our community. These meetings are open to all women of the church. They are a great time to learn what MUMW is all about and where you might want to join in for fellowship and Christian growth.

Mission and Outreach

MUMW hosts an annual Fall Craft Festival the first Saturday in October that draws in many from the Mandarin community. This fundraiser makes most of the money we then give to missions. In 2015 and early 2016, we gave over $13,000 to 14 different missions, mostly in the Jacksonville area. In addition to Fall Craft Festival donations, our circle members give many hours volunteering at the Developmental Learning Center, PACE Center for Girls, Teachers’ Depot, Mandarin Food Bank, and other places. We prepare personal hygiene and kindness bags for Hubbard House and knit and crochet blankets and hats for preemies in the local hospital Neonatal centers. These are just a few of our outreach missions. There is a place for you!

Mandarin United Methodist Women is a Connectional Body

Just as our church is connected to the UMC global ministries, MUMW members have many opportunities for additional spiritual growth and fellowship by participating in Northeast Florida District UMW Mission Studies and retreats and Conference and Regional events. Our members attend the District Spiritual Enrichment Experience at Epworth-by-the-Sea at St. Simons Island, Georgia, in mid-March. We are very proud of our connectional heritage.
